Environmental Services
Our Environmental Services are available to complement the well-established environmental testing industry. CDI offers a series of organic molecular assays where a sophisticated level of mass determination is required. If an environmental permit or assessment requires analytical services that are not normally available in commercial environmental laboratories, please review the list of offerings below or contact us to discuss. CDI specializes in analytical method development and can provide a solution through the Alternate Test Procedures Program.

Method 1633 is used in the Clean Water Act (CWA) for the determination of per- and polyfluoroalkyl substances (PFAS) in aqueous, solids (soil, biosolids, sediment), and tissue samples by liquid chromatography/mass spectrometry (LC/MS/MS).
Method 1668C [RE-CWA-CBH]
Chlorinated Biphenyl (CBs) Congeners in Water, Soil, Sediment, Biosolids, and Tissue by HRGC/HRMS.
The chlorinated biphenyl congeners that can be determined by this Method are the 12 polychlorinated biphenyls (PCBs) designated as toxic by the World Health Organization (WHO): congeners 77, 81, 105, 114, 118, 123, 126, 156, 157, 167, 169, and 189. The Method also determines the remaining 197 CBs, approximately 125 of which are resolved adequately on an SPB-octyl gas chromatographic column to be determined as individual congeners. The remaining approximately 70 congeners are determined as mixtures of isomers (co-elutions).
Method 1694 [RE-CWA-PPC]
Pharmaceuticals and Personal Care Products (PPCPs) in Water, Soil, Sediment, and Biosolids by HPLC/MS/MS
Method 1694 is for determination of pharmaceuticals and personal care products (PPCPs) in multi-media environmental samples by high performance liquid chromatography combined with tandem mass spectrometry (HPLC/MS/MS).
Method 1698 [RE-CWA-STE]
Steroids and Hormones in Water, Soil, Sediment, and Biosolids by HRGC/HRMS
EPA Method 1698 is for determination of steroids and hormones in multi-media environmental samples by high resolution gas chromatography combined with high resolution mass spectrometry (HRGC/HRMS).
Method 1699 [RE-CWA-PST]
Pesticides in Water, Soil, Sediment, Biosolids, and Tissue by HRGC/HRMS
Method 1699 is for determination of selected organochlorine, organo-phosphorus, triazine, and pyrethroid pesticides in multi-media environmental samples by high resolution gas chromatography combined with high resolution mass spectrometry (HRGC/HRMS).
Resource Conservation and Recovery Act (SW-846 Compendium)
Method 8275A [RE-RCR-BNA]
Semivolatile Organic Compounds in Soil/Sludges and Solid Wastes Using Thermal Extraction/Gas Chromatography/Mass Spectrometry (TE/GC/MS)
Method 8275A is a thermal extraction capillary GC/MS procedure for the rapid quantitative determination of targeted PCBs and PAHs in soils, sludges, and solid wastes.
Method 8280B [RE-RCR-DFL]
Polychlorinated Dibenzo-p-Dioxins (PCDDs) and Polychlorinated Dibenzofurans (PCDFs) by High-Resolution Gas Chromatography/Low-Resolution Mass Spectrometry
This method is appropriate for the detection and quantitative measurement of 2,3,7,8-tetrachlorodibenzo-p-dioxin (2,3,7,8-TCDD), 2,3,7,8-tetrachlorodibenzofuran (2,3,7,8- TCDF), and the 2,3,7,8-substituted penta-, hexa-, hepta-, and octachlorinated dibenzo-p-dioxins (PCDDs) and dibenzofurans (PCDFs) in water (at part-per-trillion concentrations), soil, fly ash, and chemical waste samples, including stillbottom, fuel oil, and sludge matrices (at part-per-billion concentrations).
Method 8290A [RE-RCR-DFH]

Alternate Test Procedures (40 CFR 136.4 & 136.5)
Alternate Test Procedures
In the event that a method listed above does not cover a client's regulatory requirements, the EPA has a mechanism for the submission and review of an alternate procedure that can be used for a nationwide or limited use. CDI specializes in the method development of analytical procedures for a wide range of industries (see Consulting Services). The detail of the final deliverables should be established prior to the commencement of work.
